JOP Feature Engagement: Erin & Elchi

We loved photographing this young couple at their home in Baton Rouge! A bicycle ride through their neighborhood and a bonfire in the backyard with their pups really illustrates their free-spirited nature. Erin and Elchi met as undergrads, and their engagement story is so genuine:

"My fiance's name is Elchi Fonacier and he is Filipino. We met at a restaurant in New Orleans where we both worked during undergrad  Our engagement story is pretty funny. To start with, we have been dating 8 years and I would have been just as happy without a ring as long as we were together, but my ring sure is pretty. Elchi had my ring in July, but he wanted to propose in NOLA and we live in Baton Rouge. He kept suggesting a weekend trip to NOLA, so finally we decided to do a "staycation" in Nola. That week I had a bad sinus infection and was not aware of the plans. I invited some friends over and we accidentally drank several bottles of wine getting very drunk.  the next morning, hungover and sick, we go to New Orleans.

We got to the Canal Steet Inn and it was really nice but I was slowly feeling worse and worse with my sinuses.  We had dinner reservations and Elchi insisted on taking a carriage ride before hand.  However I was running late, feeling lousy, and not to mention it was raining! I could not understand why he wanted to spend $75 on a wet carriage ride when the forecast was nice the next day.
I got ready in a hurry but he decided that there was no time for a carriage ride so we went to get some coffee before dinner. This was actually a ruse because the coffee shop was across from Rocky's Pizza where we had our first date!

At this point Elchi was sweating because he had already told the restaurant we were engaged when we got there and was worried what they would say when we walked in.  As we walked to the restaurant, he was saying some weird things and I asked him what is wrong. He said nothing, and then proposed right there on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant! Of course I said yes!"
