While you are planning your summer vacation here are some fun beach portrait tips:
* Wear comfortable clothes:
Make sure the neck line stays in place. Especially for moms and dads who have little ones that might need to be held at some point during the session.
It is also very important that everyone feels good in the outfits. If you choose to all be in the same color, it is ok if each of you wear different styles. Allowing your family members to choose a style that both expresses their personality and helps them to feel more comfortable results in a more relaxed session and successful portrait. Accessories are a great way to show off personality too.
* Alternative to the beautiful all white outfits:
You can mix up khaki and white. A couple of you can wear khaki tops with white pants/skirts (great for the ladies), then others can wear khaki pants or shorts with white tops. The little girls can be in a white dress or khaki dress. We have seen some great khaki shirts for the teenage ladies too. This looks great in a very large extended family sessions. Other popular colors to substitute for khaki: navy, yellow and pink.
Complementary colors are great to use too. You can use bold or pastel colors. It is really what fits your families' personality.
* Let go of perfection:
You are on vacation! You are suppose to be relaxed enjoying the moment. Allow the photographer to give a little direction to guide you to the best light and scene. Then just enjoy the moments on the sand between you and the kids.
JOP loves to capture the more intimate moments .. the giggles, the game of chase along the water, exploring for seashells, or toes and fingers in the sand. Let any of it and all of it happen while we are capturing it all!
* For a fun twist at the end of the session:
-Bring a big hat and maybe sunglasses
-Bring towels so the kids can run through the water -Beach toys (maybe leave them down at the beach so the kids are distracted by them at the beginning of the shoot)
-Build a huge sand castle that day away from the crowds so you can use it during the shoot.
-Kites and balls are fun too
Don't forget beach portraits make great JOP one of a kind Holiday cards. We can start designing them as early as August and it will be marked off your to-do list early!
